Loch Venachar & Fox The Dog original commission painting

Capturing Loch Venachar and Fox

In this commissioned painting, I aimed to capture the essence of Loch Venachar and the charm of a dog named Fox. I wanted the painting to reflect the natural character of the Scottish Highlands while making Fox a prominent part of the scene. Loch Venachar itself offers stunning views with its open water and surrounding hills, which I tried to convey through soft blues and greens.

The squirrel you see in the painting adds a playful element. It's positioned in the foreground, creating a sense of life and movement against the calm backdrop of the loch. The water and sky are filled with rich blues, which contrast nicely with the greens in the grass where the squirrel stands.

The Process of Creating a Commission

Creating this painting was a rewarding experience. I used layers of colour and loose brushwork to achieve a natural, relaxed feeling. While I enjoy painting Scottish landscapes, adding a well-known family pet like Fox adds a personal touch that makes the artwork even more meaningful.

For me, commissions are about more than just capturing a well observed scene. They're about creating something personal that can be cherished for years. If you're interested in commissioning your own piece, learn about commissioning an original Scottish landscape painting.
