Last Skye Light Original Commission Painting
I recently completed a commissioned painting titled Last Skye Light, inspired by the stunning landscape of the Isle of Skye. The painting depicts mountains at either sunset or sunrise, with a sky transitioning through shades of purple and pink. These colours reflect the ever-changing light that makes Skye such a captivating subject for landscape art.
The use of impasto technique in this work adds depth and texture, enhancing the visual impact of the mountains and sky. The thick layers of paint create a tactile quality that invites viewers to engage more deeply with the scene.
The Story Behind the Commission
Commissioning a painting allows for a personal connection to a location that holds special meaning. In Last Skye Light, I aimed to capture the essence of Skye's unique light and atmosphere. This commission offered the opportunity to interpret the landscape in a way that photographs can't fully capture, emphasising colour and texture to convey mood.
