Painting the Three Sisters of Glencoe

I painted this view of the Three Sisters of Glencoe with the aim of capturing the mood and atmosphere of the Scottish Highlands. The central focus is on the mountains themselves, which rise dramatically against a cloudy sky. I used layers of green and brown to give the landscape depth, and the mountains are positioned prominently, drawing attention to their rugged form.

The sky plays an important role in setting the scene's tone, with its grey hues complementing the vibrant greens below. This contrast helps convey the feeling of being in Glencoe, where the landscape feels both wild and calm. The mountains' presence is something I wanted to emphasise, with their darker tones standing out against the softer colours of the glen.

Creating this piece was about more than just depicting a location; it was about evoking the atmosphere of Glencoe itself. I often use loose brushwork and layers of colour to achieve this, aiming to reflect the dynamic and ever-changing light of the Highlands.
