The story
Ancient stones under a green sky
The Callanish Stones have stood on the west side of Lewis for around five thousand years. On a clear winter night the Northern Lights can rise behind them, and the whole moor glows green.
In this painting the sky is built up in thick, textured layers of greens and gold so the light seems to move as you walk past it. The stones are picked out in cool whites and blues against the peat-brown moor, keeping them still and quiet beneath all that movement.
It was painted by hand in my studio in Scotland.

From the artist
I'm Kevin Hunter, a Scottish landscape painter. I've been painting Scotland's islands, lochs and mountains full time for around fifteen years, and I hope this one brings a little of the Hebrides into your home.
