About the Painting
Haar Horizon is an atmospheric abstract seascape that captures the moment a sea haar rolls in at dusk and the line between land, sea and sky begins to dissolve. Broad, softly layered passages of slate blue, smoky violet and weathered copper fill the sky, shifting gently from cool to warm with no single bright point of light, just the quiet glow of the last of the day held within the mist.
Low in the composition, a broken band of near-black hints at a distant shore before merging back into water and sky. Below it, the sea is built from layers of grey-green, indigo and muted ochre, worked over with palette-knife scrapes, while thin runs of paint and ink travel horizontally from both the left and right edges, following the horizon and the water. The print reproduces every scraped, layered passage of the original, and its restrained palette sits beautifully with slate, linen, natural wood and deep blues.
