About this painting.
From my perspective as the artist, Kevin Hunter, "A Skye Cottage" is far more than just a painting; it's a piece of my soul and a testament to my deep, unyielding connection to the Scottish landscape.
When I first envisioned this piece, I wasn't just seeing a building; I was feeling the entirety of the Isle of Skye. I was drawn to the profound contrast—the steadfast, simple resilience of this white cottage standing against the immense, dramatic, and ever-changing backdrop of the Highlands. This is the story I constantly seek to tell in my work: the dance between humanity and the raw, untamed spirit of Scotland.
My process for this Original Scottish Landscape Painting was one of feeling rather than just observation. I built up the canvas with expressive, energetic brushstrokes, trying to capture the movement of the wind as it sweeps across the lush, vibrant hills. The greens are not just green; they are the electric, rain-washed greens unique to Skye. The sky isn't static; it's a living entity, with moody greys and blues that hint at an approaching shower or the break of sunlight. The light in Scotland is a character in itself, and capturing its fleeting, atmospheric quality is my primary passion.
The cottage itself is the heart of the painting. I rendered it with a sense of solidity and warmth, making it the focal point, a sanctuary. It represents history, endurance, and the quiet lives lived within these wild landscapes. It’s the human touch that makes the vastness of the Scottish Highlands Art feel intimate and relatable.
When I paint, I am transported. With "A Skeye Cottage," I was standing right there on that hill, feeling the damp air, smelling the peaty earth, and hearing the distant call of a bird. My goal is to share that exact moment with you. I want you to look at this piece and feel that same sense of peace, that same shiver of awe at the sheer beauty of the Hebrides. I want you to feel the texture of the land and the soul of the place.
This is what my Contemporary Scottish Art is all about. It’s about taking a scene that is quintessentially Scottish and imbuing it with the emotion and energy it evokes in me. This painting is an invitation to step into that world, to own a piece of that wild, beautiful mystery. It is, in essence, a piece of Scotland itself, captured in oil and passion.
Thanks for viewing and reading about my artwork, and please don't hesitate to get in touch with any questions, Kevin.
