About this painting.
When I stood before the Old Man of Storr, I wasn't just seeing a rock formation; I was feeling the immense, raw energy of Skye. That's what I wanted to capture in this piece. For me, it wasn't about painting every detail perfectly, but about conveying the spirit of the place.
I used thick layers of paint, applying it with a palette knife to build up the rugged texture of the land and the Storr itself. You can see the history of the landscape in those layers – the wind, the rain, the sheer ancient power of it all. The colours are a deliberate choice to heighten the emotion of the scene. The sky isn't just blue; it's a dramatic mix of deep teals and purples, with that burst of bright, hopeful light breaking through and catching the edge of the pinnacle.
