About this painting.
When I stood before the Old Man of Storr, I wasn't just seeing a rock formation; I was feeling the immense, raw energy of Skye. That's what I wanted to capture in this piece. For me, it wasn't about painting every detail perfectly, but about conveying the spirit of the place.
I used thick layers of paint, applying it with a palette knife to build up the rugged texture of the land and the Storr itself. You can see the history of the landscape in those layers – the wind, the rain, the sheer ancient power of it all. The colours are a deliberate choice to heighten the emotion of the scene. The sky isn't just blue; it's a dramatic mix of deep teals and purples, with that burst of bright, hopeful light breaking through and catching the edge of the pinnacle. That light is the focal point, the moment of awe that I felt standing there.
This painting is my memory and my feeling of that iconic view. It's about the drama of the Scottish Highlands, the interplay between shadow and light, and the enduring strength of the land. I wanted anyone looking at it to feel a sense of that wild, breathtaking beauty that I was lucky enough to witness.
Thanks for viewing and reading about my artwork, and please don't hesitate to get in touch with any questions, Kevin.
