Achmelvich Beach Painting

This commissioned painting portrays Achmelvich Beach, a stunning coastal area in the north-west Highlands of Scotland. The scene is set with a rocky shoreline leading into a lush green hillside, where small structures are nestled into the landscape. The horizon stretches wide, dividing the sky from the sea, and the sky itself transitions from orange to pink, offering a warm backdrop to the scene.

When painting this view, I aimed to convey the vivid colours and atmosphere characteristic of this part of Scotland. I used loose brushwork and layered colours to create movement and depth, encouraging the eye to follow the shoreline towards the distant landscape. The contrast between the clear blue and turquoise waters, the pale sand, and the rugged surroundings was central to this piece.

I was born and raised in Greenock and have been painting since I was a child. I trained in Interior Design in Glasgow, which has influenced my approach to composition and colour.
