About this painting.
As an artist, I'm constantly chasing the unique light and "mood" of the Scottish landscape. This painting, "Cromarty Harbour Northern Lights," captures one of those truly magical, fleeting moments.
Seeing the Aurora Borealis dance over a place as full of character as Cromarty is an experience that stays with you. I wasn't interested in creating a simple photograph of the scene; I wanted to capture the sheer feeling of it. The electric energy in the air, the unearthly glow of the sky, and the beautiful contrast between that wild, celestial light and the warm, man-made lights of the harbour below.
Using an impressionistic and abstract style, I worked with vibrant, bold colours—deep greens, purples, and blues—to convey the movement and energy of the Northern Lights. You can see how those same intense colours reflect in the water, turning the entire harbour into a canvas of light.
This original Scottish landscape painting is a statement piece from my Highlands & Lowlands collection.
