About this painting.
The Isle of Gigha has this incredibly peaceful quality, especially as the day ends. Capturing a Gigha sunset in an original painting was something I felt compelled to do. It’s not just about the colours – though they are spectacular – it’s about that specific atmosphere, the stillness of the water reflecting the sky, the feeling of quiet beauty that descends over the Hebridean islands.
When I painted this Scottish landscape, I focused heavily on the light. That warm, golden glow spreading across the horizon, hitting the clouds and the gentle waves – it's a signature moment in the Hebrides. I used layers of paint to build up the vibrant oranges, pinks, and yellows, contrasting them with the deepening blues of the evening sky and sea. My aim was to create an atmospheric painting that pulls you into that specific moment on Gigha.
As a contemporary Scottish artist, I'm constantly drawn to the unique light and landscapes of our islands. This original painting from Scotland is my interpretation of a perfect Gigha sunset, trying to convey the warmth and tranquillity I felt standing there. I hope this piece brings a sense of that Hebridean peace and the stunning beauty of a Scottish sunset into your home. It’s a snapshot of why the Isle of Gigha is such a special place to me.
